Pulp

Therapy

Every little smile deserves gentle care. If tooth decay reaches deeper into your child’s tooth, pulp therapy can help relieve discomfort and keep their smile healthy as they grow.

Saving Your Child’s Tooth with Pulp Therapy

When a cavity goes untreated, tooth decay can reach the inner part of the tooth, called the pulp. This can cause pain, sensitivity, or infection. When this happens, we may recommend pulp therapy to treat the affected area and help save your child’s tooth.

Pulp therapy is commonly performed on baby teeth. During a pulpotomy, we remove the infected or damaged portion of the pulp, clean the tooth, and place medication to help protect the remaining healthy tissue. A dental crown, often a stainless steel crown for children, may then be placed to protect the tooth and restore its function.

The goal of pulp therapy is to relieve discomfort, treat infection, and help your child keep their natural tooth until it is ready to fall out naturally.
